The Florida Scoop Investigates

Taxpayers Fund Florida Parties?

We have heard about expensive trips from Congressmen/women often. As a Florida resident, exploring trips from Florida Congressmen/women directly impacts me and other Floridians. I’m not rehashing trips from past political candidates.  Who takes the most trips and what do these trips cost? The trips are for what purpose?

The number one traveler in Florida Congressional politics is:
Democrat Representative Corrine Brown from Florida’s 3rd District taking 32 of a possible 42 trips at a cost of $ 90,285.
The 3rd district includes parts of Duval, Clay, Putnam, Alachua, Volusia, Marion, Lake, Seminole, and Orange Counties. She currently serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Veterans Affairs Committees and Chairs the Transportation Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials.
Some of Corrine Brown’s travels include Royal Caribbean Cruises and many trips for Black Caucuses. For the complete list of trips for Representative Corrine Brown, see here.

Florida’s second most traveled Representative is Democrat Kendrick Meek from Florida’s 17th District including part of Brevard County trips cost nearly $ 87,000. To see the predominately Democrat District 17 see here. Kendrick Meek took a trip to Taiwan (twice) once to study the Catholic University, the second trip was in cooperation with the Chinese International Economic Co-operation Association. Kendrick took another trip to  the Virgin Islands many times and one trip included exploring the Black Caucus. In addition, Kendrick has traveled to Doha, Qatar to the University of Doha. The University is funded by the Qatar Foundation which also funds Al Jazeera television. Now Kendrick Meek is seeking vacated Mel Martinez’s Senate seat as a Democrat. You might want to ask Kendrick Meek why he appears to support Islamic law and Al Jazeera television.

According to the Trafficking in Persons Report by the US State Department, men and women who are lured into Qatar by promises of high wages are often forced into underpaid labor. The report states that Qatari laws against forced labour are rarely enforced and that labour laws often result in the detention of victims in deportation centres, pending the completion of legal proceedings.

Kendrick doesn’t stop his travels there – he went on a trip to India for Indian defense and security issues. Wouldn’t Florida taxpayers be better served if Kendrick Meek defended America’s security and defense issues?

So much for fiscal conservative jibber jabber.  Do you see how these trips help Florida?
